  2. Will receive and greet patients as they arrive at the clinic.
  3. Will take and record vital signs. A brief description of the patients’ complaint/condition and record this information on the patient’s chart.
  4. Will assist when directed in performing phlebotomy tests, urinalysis, and vital signs.
  5. Responsible for monthly duties as assigned.
  6. Records all pertinent patient information and ensures all necessary forms are completed before patients are seen.
  7. Will assist in ordering office supplies and forms using the correct requisitions.
  8. Will maintain the appearance of the office and equipment to assure a positive image and smooth operation.
  9. Ensures that office hours are maintained, and the public is notified of any variance.

  23. Ensures that all patient files are kept current with proper information being contained in each.
  24. Utilizes established channels of communication and lines of authority for problem solving and communications.

Education:

Supportive Services:
  • Assist to identify patient and/or family needs and may make appropriate referrals to ensure integrated health care services and/or community resources are offered and utilized.

Community Patient/Client Coordination & Communication:
  • This position may assist the Marketing Department to provide outreach services messaging to the community, clients, patients and/or families by creating positive messages to attempt to engage the clients/patients in the appropriate services.
  • Collaborate with the integrated healthcare team or other service providers in trying to make or maintain contacts with hard-to-reach patients, clients, or families.
  • May assist or serve as a liaison with the Hispanic/Latino communities.

Job Summary: A Medical Technologist is responsible for performing laboratory tests in order to obtain data for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease in accordance with established policies and procedures. He/she will obtain, receive and process specimens, analyze specimens, interpret test results and report accurate test results.  He/she will be able to perform the work in any laboratory station. Primary Job Responsibilities:
  1. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of procedures for Universal Blood and Body Fluid Precautions. Relates proper techniques necessary to their service and job role.  Understands importance and is aware of the procedure for reporting any and all blood and body fluid exposures.  Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of procedures outlines in the Chemical Hygiene Plan.  Maintains work area and equipment in clean and orderly condition.  Performs laboratory functions and procedures with proper safety attire.  Maintains sanitary and safe work areas.  Follows safety precautions/contraindications.
  2. Performs routine clinical laboratory tests with assigned sections. Records test results according to established procedures and reports results within expected turn-around times.  Evaluates abnormal test results and/or problems and either corrects the problem or pursues solutions under the direction of the Department Director or Pathologist.  Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established acceptable levels of performance.  Differentiates between those situations in the clinical area which must be referred to supervisory personnel and those requiring independent action and proceeds accordingly.
  3. Correctly utilizes instruments and equipment required to perform various laboratory tests in any area of the laboratory; takes care to maintain all such equipment in proper working order and occasionally prepares chemical reagents required for laboratory determinations. Performs routine scheduled preventative maintenance, calibration, and minor problem troubleshooting on laboratory instruments, working with other personnel to effect a resolution.  Monitors levels of supplies and notes reagent stability and expiration dates.
  4. Performs venipuncture and skin puncture according to established aseptic techniques. Verifies identification and explains blood drawing procedure to patients.  Travels to patient care units as necessary.
  5. Receives laboratory specimens, ensures proper and complete patient information on specimens and test requisitions. Determines acceptability of specimens ensuring such were collected properly, in the correct quantity and collection devise, and/or labeled properly.  May call patient care units and/or physicians offices to clarify laboratory requisitions or to inform same as to need to obtain a correctly collected specimen.  Prepares specimens for analysis according to detailed procedures established for each test.
  6. Maintains specimen security in order that efficient and accurate processing of laboratory data may occur; assures 100% accuracy when identifying patients with their specimens and handles send-out specimens by properly preserving, separating, storing and mailing out without error.
  7. Performs and documents appropriate quality control procedures, evaluating any abnormality and pursuing appropriate resolution under the direction of the Department Director and/or the Pathologist. Performs proficiency surveys as directed, maintaining records demonstrating the proficiency samples were tested in the same manner as patient samples.
  8. Maintains competency in areas of laboratory as specified by the Department Director.
Job Specifications:  Education Requirements:
  1. An Associate Degree in Clinical Laboratory Technology/Medical Laboratory Technology or a Bachelors Degree in Clinical Laboratory Technology/Medical Technology.
  2. Successful completion of the NCA/ASCP/AMT registry exam is preferred, alternates registrations are acceptable if equivalent.
  3. 6 month’s experience required.

Job Summary: Phlebotomists are the primary specimen collection personnel within the laboratory.  All phlebotomists are responsible for:
  • receiving patients in a courteous manner
  • looking up physician orders for laboratory tests
  • selecting the appropriate collection containers
  • obtaining laboratory specimens through proper phlebotomy techniques on all ages of patients (neonates, toddlers, children, adolescents, adults, and seniors)
  • properly labeling specimens and accessioning them into the laboratory
  • answering patient and provider questions about testing or helping them find someone who can.
Phlebotomists must also demonstrate effective and professionally competent communication to physicians, other care providers, and nursing staff.  Phlebotomists support the work of the medical technologists.  Primary Job Responsibilities: Protected Health Information—phlebotomists must safeguard patient information, employee information and other protected health and private information.   They should keep confidential all information they work with and only shared it with other members of the health care team DIRECTLY involved in the patient’s care. Compliance—all phlebotomists must follow laboratory procedures, hospital policies, Joint Commission and College of American Pathologists (CAP) standards, and instrument operational instructions for any equipment they may use. Quality Control— all phlebotomists will ensure that the requisite quality control procedures are conducted within their scope of practice and work area.  This includes ensuring that all collection materials and other laboratory supplies are only used before their expiration date, and that expired materials are discarded. Competency— all phlebotomists must demonstrate and document competency before performing any collection procedure or CLIA-waived test in the laboratory.  They will not perform testing or procedures which are outside their scope of practice. Safety and Risk Management—All phlebotomists are responsible for the safe operation of the laboratory.  This includes annual training (Healthstreams) as well as daily compliance and corrective action when hazards are noted. Education—all phlebotomists will fully participate in the laboratory education program.  This includes competency testing during initial training, annual competency training thereafter.  It includes successful performance and participation in all assigned further education.  Phlebotomists are not just students, they are also trainers. Supply Management—all phlebotomists will aid in ordering and maintaining inventories of necessary supplies.  All phlebotomists will assist with the integration of new materials into the laboratory and oversee the disposal of out of date or discontinued supplies.   Phlebotomists should be good stewards of the supplies they use, doing all they can to minimize waste, streamline processes and manage laboratory processes with utmost efficiency Teamwork—the workload of this laboratory cannot be accomplished without the concerted efforts of the entire staff.  It is important that all staff strive to build excellent working relationships with other staff members.  These relationships should recognize differences in how each team member works best, and find ways to help others be productive and motivated team members. Duties as Assigned—no list can encompass every possible required duty.  All phlebotomists will be required to fulfill roles assigned to them by the Administrative Laboratory Director, Pathologist, or hospital administration when such duties are necessary for the successful delivery of patient care.  Phlebotomists should strive to be good ambassadors of the laboratory profession towards physicians, hospital employees, patients and the community at large. Education Requirements
  • High School diploma (GED) at a minimum, some higher education preferred. Specifically, must have a demonstrated aptitude for performing specimen collections (including phlebotomy) and ability to navigate the health care environment.  Training can be offered in phlebotomy, but a phlebotomy certification plus work experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in basic medical terminology.
  • Demonstrated CAPACITY to work INDEPENDENTLY in the following areas:

Job Summary: Responsible for processing claims of all third party payers and private pay patients, both inpatient and outpatient; handles correspondence to and from insurance companies regarding submitted claims; makes appropriate contacts, by telephone or correspondence, with patients or insureds regarding needed information to accurately bill patient’s claim; prepares EFT vouchers from third party payers for posting to patient accounts; must be available to the public, walk-ins and telephone calls, for any inquiries; monitor and manage accounts to minimize credit balances, bankruptcies, and self-pay referrals to the extended business office. HOURS: Part-Time, 24 hours weekly                                      Primary Job Responsibilities:
  1. Process all third-party payer claims.
  2. Monitor the coding and charging of all outpatient visits, inpatient visits, surgical procedures, ancillary procedures and/or clinic procedures for appropriateness and reviews accounts for compliance with Federal and State billing requirements to payers.
  3. Maintain the Epic work ques including claim edits and charge review so that accounts are billed within 4 days.
  4. Maintain the Epic claim edit, denial, rejection and no response work ques for timely follow up for all payers and private pay.
  5. Perform the necessary maintenance of patient accounts, i.e., correspondence, follow-ups, logs, inquires, payment arrangements, and correspondence to ensure accurate and timely communication with the extended business office.
  6. Maintain a system to capture missed and/or late charges prior to submission of claims.
  7. Accept and post payments via all payment methods from patients and third party payers.
  8. Prepare EFT vouchers for posting to appropriate accounts.
  9. Balance receipts posted to the deposit slip to be sure all receipts tie out to close the day for posting.
  10. Prepare and maintain the Bad Debt Collection files and work closely with that agency.
  11. Maintain the patient accounts for bankruptcy claims and take appropriate measures to remain within required Federal guidelines.
  12. Reconcile credit balances on patient accounts according to the guidelines within the Financial and Collection Policy.
  13. Reconcile and submit the quarterly credit balance report to Medicare and Medicaid.
  14. Work with other departments to ensure best practices and processes for the entire Revenue Cycle.
  15. Work closely with healthcare providers in the education of billing and coding principals.
  16. Maintain knowledge of Federal and State billing requirements.
  17. Maintain proper telephone etiquette.
  18. Perform other duties as assigned and requested.
Job Specifications:
  1. Certified Critical Access Biller/Coder, CRCS, CRCP or work equivalence preferred.
  2. Experience with claim processing and denial follow up required.
  3. Hospital or clinic billing experience in CAH, RHC or FFS of 3 – 5 years preferred.
  4. Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlock required.
