Job Summary:

The Occupational Therapist Consultant is a licensed occupational therapist.  He/she is responsible for the function and management of occupational therapy care.  He/she is also responsible for ensuring that quality care is provided to the residents.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  1. After physician referral, evaluates patients prior to treatment.
  2. Plans and documents occupational therapy treatment program for patients or residents when appropriate.
  3. Directs and assists patient or resident in therapeutic exercises, muscle re-education, splinting and use of adaptive equipment, and activities of daily living.
  4. When appropriate, utilizes hydrotherapy, electrotherapy, and other heat and cold applications as well as massage.
  5. Instructs nursing on activities to be done and is available for consultation for any problems or concerns about treatment plan.
  6. Maintains timely, accurate records/documentation for each patient or resident.
  7. Maintains contact with physicians throughout resident treatment program to provide information on resident progress and to communicate program revisions.
  8. Maintains communication with members of the interdisciplinary team regarding patient or resident status.
  9. Instructs family members and other care givers in therapy carryover activities as indicated.

HOURS/LOCATION: Per Requested Need (PRN) – Memorial Hospital

Job Specifications: 

Education Requirements:

  1. Graduate of an approved school of occupational therapy and licensed or eligible to be licensed in the State of Illinois.
  2. Must have a valid driver’s license.

Pertinent Skills Required:

  1. Excellent communication skills.
  2. Computer literate.
  3. Emotional stability
  4. Ability to cope with the demands of patients and their families.
