Job Summary This position will share the duties of both a Medical Assistant and Patient Experience Specialist.  Both roles, with responsibilities listed below, will support the Behavioral Health Department. This role will not only register patients upon arrival, but they will also assist providers in professional and clinical procedures (phlebotomy, urinalysis, injections, and taking and recording patient vital signs) when needed. Primary Job Responsibilities
  1. Responsible for all patient care activities as directed by leadership.
  2. When directed, will assist in performing phlebotomy tests and urinalysis.
  3. Assist with departmental coverage needs, including possible coverage at outlying clinics.
  4. Will receive and greet patients as they arrive at the clinic, taking and recording vital signs and a brief description of the patient's complaint/condition.
  5. Records all pertinent patient information in EMR and ensures all necessary forms are completed before patients are seen.
  6. Will maintain the appearance of the office and equipment to assure a positive image and smooth operation, including managing office supply inventory.
  7. Ensures that office hours are maintained, and the public is notified of any variance.
  8. Actively and consistently contributes to the success of the clinic and objectives, often representing the clinic in organizational events.
  9. Supports the policies and procedures and administrative decisions within the clinic.
  10. Accepts supervision and feedback in a non-defensive manner, correcting or improving behavior as requested.
  11. Communicates clinical and equipment problems to the appropriate administrative personnel.
  12. Knows the patients’ rights and responsibilities and is responsible for the implementation.
  13. Collects co-pays and patient balances at the time of service.
  14. Provides equality among all patients in the practice without regard for ability to pay for services.
  15. Continues education through in-service seminars and literature in order to maintain up-to-date knowledge of current trends in operations of clinics and health care in general.
  16. Assists with documentation of incidents.
  17. Ensures that all patients that have a scheduled appointment are seen within 15 minutes of that time or are provided with an explanation.
  18. Ensure that all appropriate medical charts and information are available prior to each scheduled appointment.
  19. Ensures that all patient files are kept current with proper information, including all appropriate signatures.
  20. Promotes effective and cooperative relationships with co-workers and utilizes established channels of communication and lines of authority for problem solving and communication.
  21. Maintains appointment schedule with distribution to nursing staff and providers as requested.
  22. Answers the telephone promptly and collects/records all necessary information from patient.
  23. Responsible for coordinating incoming and outgoing mail operations and retrieving/distributing faxes.
  24. Responsible for end of day procedures (including balancing cash drawer).
  25. Other duties as assigned.

  1. Current state licensure.

  20. Prepares written documentation as required for the department. Assists with performance reviews and disciplinary action as well as coaching and counseling of the staff.  Evaluates competency of the staff.

  22. Assisting Inpatient RN’s with high acuity tasks or procedures with physicians at bedside as needed
  • Overseeing LPN’s doing their IV pushes, hanging IV piggybacks, assisting with cares of chest tubes/wound vacs/complicated dressings/etc.
  • Daily checks on crash cart/emergency equipment; house alarms; temperature checks
  1. Staff for 24 hours:
  • Covering staffing for next shift
  • Covering staffing for “call-ins” when RN or healthcare worker calls in sick.
  • Covering for increases in census during current shift, or increases in acuity.
  • Covering low census
  1. Responding to Crisis Situations:
  • Reports to ED or patient room, for all Code Blues/STEMI and Stroke alerts/Rapid response
  • Calls in on-call staff
  1. Transferring patients outside the hospital:
  • Assisting physician by calling hospitals for bed availability
  • Transfer Packet: getting paperwork, charting complete, EMTALA signatures
  • Notify ancillary departments to provide discs, push films, etc.
  • Calling for transfer vehicle/helicopter
  1. Pharmacy Backup:
  • Finding and obtaining medications for attending RN’s, that are not carried in the Omnicell.
  • Mixing IV drips that are not standard mix concentrations.
  • Assisting attending RN’s to run and monitor IV drips not commonly used at this facility
  • Restocking Omnicell if needed
  • Calling On-call Pharmacy as needed
  • Restocking Crash carts and emergency medicines as needed.
  • Changing pharmacies for patients at discharge when pharmacies are closed.
  1. Swing Bed Patients:
  • Assess transfer documents for appropriateness of admission when social services/administration staff unavailable
  • Assign bed and staff as patients accepted and arrive
  • Enter all admission orders when admitting physicians not available
  • Perform medication reconciliation from receiving hospital
  • Obtain/Assist attending RN to obtain medications for patients if pharmacy unavailable
  • Assist with admission process
  1. Trouble-Shooter:
  • Answer all phone call questions
  • Taking orders from off-site physicians, putting them into Epic, and carrying them out.
  • Making arrangements for medical equipment, home health, hospice, oxygen, medication, pick up, etc., for discharges on weekends or off hours when social services isn’t available.
  • Round with attending physicians as needed
  • Round with consulting physicians as needed
  • Round with covering physicians, assisting them with order entry, admission and discharge procedures.

  4. Computer failure and downtime: managing to switch form computer to paper, locating paper charts, supplies; assisting departments in patient care and documentation, running slips and reports and orders to lab and radiology
Required Qualifications 1. Currently licensed in the State of Illinois. 2. ACLS Certification Preferred Qualifications 1. Bachelor's degree in Nursing. 2. Three to five years experience in critical care. 3. Experience in a supervisory capacity, such as head nurse, is beneficial.

We are seeking a full-time and part-time service members to serve up to 11 months starting in early November 2024, to serve at the Memorial Hospital in Carthage, IL. Responsibilities
  • Typically serve full-time Monday - Friday (41.25 hours per week). Some placements may include occasional evening or weekend hours. Part-time opportunities may be available at 25 hours per week.
  • Deliver health education and support patients/community members in navigating the care, community programs and resources on heart health related topics including cardiovascular disease, smoking cessation, nutrition, blood pressure, and chronic diseases such as diabetes.
  • Assist with public health surveys. This may include recruiting participants, administering the survey in-person or via phone, tracking data, and/or running reports.

Job Summary The Pre-Service Specialist monitors compliance with Federal and State regulations in the process of pre-certifying all procedures and services.  This specialist will communicate internally with leadership when encountering any pre-certification and/or billing issues.  Additionally, this specialist will communicate externally with the patient to provide clear expectations of financial responsibility. Primary Job Responsibilities
  1. Verifies all insurance on scheduled services and provides an estimate of the self pay portion to the patient.
  2. Obtains pre-authorizations/pre-certification per payer requirements for scheduled and non-scheduled hospital and clinic services prior to services rendered and ensures authorization number is documented in the appropriate field in the system.
  3. Ensures the clinical documentation is provided to the insurance when appropriate for all IP and OP services.
  4. Monitors the approval of all observation, inpatient, and swing bed patients for adequate approval of covered days. Call the insurance company when appropriate to request additional days.
  5. Inputs information for inpatient stays into the Medicaid IP Health Solution system for pre-certification approval.
  6. Completes referral documentation and forms for patients being referred from Memorial Medical Clinics to a specialist.
  7. Completed all United Healthcare referrals in the appropriate system.
  8. Monitors the daily operations of Financial Counseling for scheduled services.
  9. Reports all Financial Counseling, pre-authorization, pre-certification, and/or registration issues to the Director of Revenue Cycle.
  10. Maintains effective communications with physicians, physicians’ offices, ancillary departments, other departments, and co-workers as is appropriate.
  11. Helps to maintain a professional atmosphere for patients and clinical staff.

Job Summary: A Medical Technologist is responsible for performing laboratory tests in order to obtain data for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease in accordance with established policies and procedures. He/she will obtain, receive and process specimens, analyze specimens, interpret test results and report accurate test results.  He/she will be able to perform the work in any laboratory station. Primary Job Responsibilities:
  1. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of procedures for Universal Blood and Body Fluid Precautions. Relates proper techniques necessary to their service and job role.  Understands importance and is aware of the procedure for reporting any and all blood and body fluid exposures.  Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of procedures outlines in the Chemical Hygiene Plan.  Maintains work area and equipment in clean and orderly condition.  Performs laboratory functions and procedures with proper safety attire.  Maintains sanitary and safe work areas.  Follows safety precautions/contraindications.
  2. Performs routine clinical laboratory tests with assigned sections. Records test results according to established procedures and reports results within expected turn-around times.  Evaluates abnormal test results and/or problems and either corrects the problem or pursues solutions under the direction of the Department Director or Pathologist.  Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established acceptable levels of performance.  Differentiates between those situations in the clinical area which must be referred to supervisory personnel and those requiring independent action and proceeds accordingly.
  3. Correctly utilizes instruments and equipment required to perform various laboratory tests in any area of the laboratory; takes care to maintain all such equipment in proper working order and occasionally prepares chemical reagents required for laboratory determinations. Performs routine scheduled preventative maintenance, calibration, and minor problem troubleshooting on laboratory instruments, working with other personnel to effect a resolution.  Monitors levels of supplies and notes reagent stability and expiration dates.
  4. Performs venipuncture and skin puncture according to established aseptic techniques. Verifies identification and explains blood drawing procedure to patients.  Travels to patient care units as necessary.
  5. Receives laboratory specimens, ensures proper and complete patient information on specimens and test requisitions. Determines acceptability of specimens ensuring such were collected properly, in the correct quantity and collection devise, and/or labeled properly.  May call patient care units and/or physicians offices to clarify laboratory requisitions or to inform same as to need to obtain a correctly collected specimen.  Prepares specimens for analysis according to detailed procedures established for each test.
  6. Maintains specimen security in order that efficient and accurate processing of laboratory data may occur; assures 100% accuracy when identifying patients with their specimens and handles send-out specimens by properly preserving, separating, storing and mailing out without error.
  7. Performs and documents appropriate quality control procedures, evaluating any abnormality and pursuing appropriate resolution under the direction of the Department Director and/or the Pathologist. Performs proficiency surveys as directed, maintaining records demonstrating the proficiency samples were tested in the same manner as patient samples.
  8. Maintains competency in areas of laboratory as specified by the Department Director.

  1. An Associate Degree in Clinical Laboratory Technology/Medical Laboratory Technology or a Bachelors Degree in Clinical Laboratory Technology/Medical Technology.
  2. Successful completion of the NCA/ASCP/AMT registry exam is preferred, alternates registrations are acceptable if equivalent.
  3. 6 month’s experience required.
