Job Summary:

Provide general care and education to children 6 weeks to 5 years of age. This position requires providing services to the assigned classroom in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional/developmental age of the individual served.

 Qualifications:                                                                                                                                    

  • At least 19 years of age
  • Minimum of High School Diploma or GED
  • 60 semester hours of credits from an accredited college or university with 6 semester hours in courses related directly to childcare and/or child development, from birth to age 6

OR

  • One year of child development experience in a nursery school, kindergarten, or licensed day care center AND 30 semester hours of credits from an accredited college or university with 6 semester hours in courses related directly to childcare and/or child development, from birth to age six.

OR

  • Completion of Programs approved by the Department in accordance with Appendix G (Part 407 Licensing Standards for Day Care Centers)

The Department will use the following criteria to review and approve early childhood teacher credentialing programs.

 

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Candidates must be at least 19 years of age.
  • Candidates must have at least a high school diploma or equivalency (GED)
  • The credentialing program must require a minimum of 640 clock hours of documented experience within the past 5 years working with children ages zero to 6 in a public or private school operated nursery school, kindergarten or licensed day care center.
  • Must obtain Food Handlers Certificate
  • Completion of Lead Safety Training, including mitigation plan strategies and impact of lead exposure.
  • Completed training and is currently certified in first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the Heimlich maneuver, Active CPR & First Aid certification for adult and pediatric ages and first aid for choking infants or ability to obtain.
