Job Summary:

Security: Ensure the safety of patients, visitors, and employees on Memorial Hospital campus. Security officers are also responsible for carrying out loss prevention tactics as well as proactive approaches of ensuring a campus free of criminal incidents. Maintenance: Responsible for the completion of routine work orders and works on remodeling projects. Housekeeping:  Cleans all areas of the hospital by performing routine cleaning of patient rooms, nursing units, offices, clinical areas, waiting areas, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, and corridors.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  1. Assists in maintaining a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients, families, and significant others.
  2. Monitors psychosocial condition of patients. Reports and documents change to appropriate personnel.
  3. Communicates and treats patients according to their individual age, education level, and ability to understand instructions and descriptions of their treatment.
  4. Ensures adequate stock of supplies and proper functioning of equipment.
  5. Cleans and prepares Emergency rooms between procedures.
  6. Utilizes effective communication strategies.
  7. Utilizes the proper chain of command for resolution of difficult issues.
  8. Assists in lifting or transporting patients.
  9. Responsible for completion of routine maintenance work orders
  10. Visually inspects system equipment for signs of malfunction, breakdown or wear.
  11. Performs daily rounds check to monitor proper equipment operations.
  12. Performs daily security rounds.
  13. Must obtain de-escalation training (provided by Memorial Hospital) within 30 days of hire.
  14. Responds to all violence related pages.
  15. Works closely with local law enforcement when needed.
  16. Works on remodeling projects such as painting, furniture moving, etc.
  17. Keeps shop, tools, and materials clean, neat and picked up on a regular basis.
  18. Responsible for inspecting walls, floors, and ceilings for signs of deterioration and makes the necessary repairs. Patches cracks and blemishes in walls and paint touch-up as needed.
  19. Performs general repairs to plumbing, mechanical and electrical equipment.
  20. Responsible for snow removal.
  21. Promote the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
  22. Performs all assigned tasks in a professional manner in order to reflect the highest integrity of the Environmental Services Department.
  23. Performs routine cleaning of patient rooms, nursing units, offices, clinical areas, waiting areas, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, and corridors in a clean, neat and sanitary manner.
  24. Performs terminal/detailed cleaning of the patient rooms by following check list.
  25. Utilizes the appropriate chemicals and supplies according to procedure.
  26. Uses and maintains equipment properly. Assists visitors with directions whenever requested.
  27. Always introduces self to patients, families and visitors.
  28. Reports safety hazards as appropriate.
  29. Transports trash and hazardous waste to appropriate disposal area.
  30. Transports soiled linen to proper storage and ready’s linen for contract pickup.
  31. Delivers linen to departmental storage racks and re-covers linens after drop off.
  32. Replenishes supplies.
  33. Follows all infection control practices including hand washing techniques, Standard Precautions and isolation precautions.
  34. Maintains set quality standards when performing job duties.
  35. Works day, evening or night shifts as assigned.
  36. Ability to do work on his/her own with normal supervision.
  37. Observes safety precautions at all times.
  38. Maintains age specific safety precautions.
  39. The ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  40. Ability to read and understand equipment operation manual.
  41. Cleans and maintains carpet and tiled floors by using heavy equipment to clean, strip and wax floors on a rotating basis.
  42. Cooperate with other personnel to achieve departmental objectives, maintain good employee relations and interdepartmental objectives.
  43. Maintains documentation on continuing education and training of staff as procedures for new equipment and process changes occur.
  44. Performs other duties as assigned.
  45. Ensures the hospitals Service Excellence initiatives are carried out within the department.

 HOURS: Varies, but mainly 4:30pm-6am

Job Specifications:

 Education Requirements:

  1. High School Graduate or equivalent.
  2. Security, or law enforcement experience preferred, but not required.
