The Director of Nutrition Services at Memorial Hospital, Deborah Schuster RD, CSG, LDN, CDE, will be instructing a Lifestyle Intervention Program called “All About Me”. The program is a yearlong commitment, which implements small lifestyle changes to produce big results and is designed to reduce each individual’s risk for developing cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and type II diabetes. The lifestyle intervention program is successful at reducing the risk for chronic disease through improved nutrition, weight loss, and increased physical activity.

“Taking the Lifestyle program into the community is a great opportunity to reduce heart disease, hypertension and type II diabetes,” says Schuster.  “It is so much easier to make small changes now which can delay or prevent the development of chronic disease. Losing as little as two pounds can reduce the risk of developing type II diabetes by 13%”

The Lifestyle Program consists of a yearlong commitment, meeting once a week for 16 weeks and then once monthly for the remaining 8 months. The program is not clinic based; sessions will take place in communities around the region. The program is based on a National Diabetes Prevention Program, which has had nationwide success.
