In recognition of National Nurses Week 2026, themed “The Power of Nurses,” Memorial Hospital, Memorial Medical Clinics, and Hancock Village are celebrating the vital role nurses play in delivering compassionate, high-quality care across the region.
Nurses are the foundation of the healthcare experience, combining clinical expertise with compassion to support patients and families at every stage of care. From hospital settings to outpatient clinics and residential communities, their presence brings comfort, confidence, and continuity to those they serve.
At Memorial Hospital, nurses are central to patient care, managing complex medical needs while providing reassurance during some of life’s most critical moments. “Our nurses are the constant for our patients,” said Shelly Hunter, Director of Inpatient Services. “They bring skill, compassion, and a sense of calm in moments that matter most, and that is where their true power is seen.”
Within Memorial Medical Clinics, nurses play a key role in preventive care, chronic disease management, and patient education. Their ability to build lasting relationships contributes to improved outcomes and stronger community health. “The power of our clinic nurses is in the relationships they build every day,” said Tasha Koehler, Director of Clinic Operations. “They are a trusted resource for our patients, guiding them through their health journey with knowledge, compassion, and consistency.”
At Hancock Village, including Hickory Grove and Maple Grove, nurses provide care that extends beyond physical health. Their work supports residents’ and families’ emotional well-being and quality of life. “Our nurses care for the whole person,” said Melissa Tate, Director of Nursing at Hancock Village. “They support not only physical health, but emotional well-being, creating an environment where residents and families feel safe, valued, and cared for.”
The power of nurses is also reflected in their commitment to professional growth and specialization. Many begin their careers as Licensed Practical Nurses and continue advancing through Registered Nurse and Bachelor of Science in Nursing programs, with some pursuing advanced degrees and specialized certifications. These pathways allow nurses to develop expertise in areas such as emergency care, pediatrics, obstetrics, and long-term care, strengthening the level of care available throughout the organization. Memorial also supports this growth by encouraging continuing education through tuition reimbursement and scholarship opportunities, helping nurses and all staff throughout the organization advance their careers while continuing to serve the community.
