Memorial Hospital provides emergency medical services 24 hours per day, seven days a week. Our nurses are trained in advanced cardiac life support and our physicians are trained to provide emergency medicine. We offer short wait time to patients entering our Emergency Department which means fast access to the medical care you need. We treat a variety of medical emergencies including:

  • Accidents including athletic, playground, workplace or school-related
  • Acute behavioral health problems and emotional problems
  • Asthma and other breathing emergencies
  • Back pain
  • Bone and joint injuries
  • Falls
  • Heart attack/chest pain
  • Injuries caused by violence
  • Poisoning
  • Severe pain and/or bleeding
  • Stroke
  • Traumatic injury

Our staff of professional emergency physicians and nurses have the skills to treat and stabilize cardiac and stroke patients. Getting the right treatment started immediately is vital! The long-term outcome of stroke and heart attack patients depends on whether the initial stabilization is done immediately – not after a long ride to a distant hospital.

That’s why we have partnerships with trauma centers throughout the region to provide consultation and monitoring by specialists to help guide early intervention and transfers to a cardiac catheterization center or trauma center if needed. When you suspect heart attack, stroke, or another major emergency, get to our emergency department immediately, where the condition can be stabilized and treatment begun. Life-saving thrombolytic and fibrinolytic medicines have the ability to save heart muscle and brain tissue when administered quickly after symptoms emerge. Time really does matter!

The care received in the minutes following episodes such as stroke and heart attack can make a difference between life and death, and between full recovery and permanent disability.

The Memorial Hospital Emergency Department is ready and waiting, 24/7. We are here to handle broken arms or cuts that require stitches. We treat high fevers and all of the countless other little emergencies that come out of nowhere.

What special certifications does Memorial Hospital have?

We are an Emergent Stroke-Ready Certified hospital.

Memorial Hospital is designated an Emergent Stroke Ready Hospital and maintains certification through the Illinois Department of Public Health. We maintain transfer agreements with Primary Stroke Centers and are able to provide medical interventions early to help minimize damage caused by strokes.

Memorial Hospital works closely with the 911 response system, ambulance services and regional Primary Stroke Centers in a coordinated way to provide patients the right care, at the right place, in the right amount of time. With designated Stroke Centers in place, individuals suffering a stroke will receive quicker response times that may lead to improved survival and recovery rates.
