Clinic Biller/Coder Patient Account Specialist

Memorial Hospital is looking for an experience clinic biller with at least 3 – 5 years of clinic billing/coding experience in an RHC and fee for service facility.  Remote, at home, off campus access will be considered.  See job specifications and job responsibilities listed below. Primary Job Responsibilities:

Monitor the coding and charging of all clinic procedures for appropriateness and reviews accounts for compliance with Federal and State billing requirements to payers.

Maintain the Epic work ques including claim edits and charge review so that accounts are billed within 4 business days.

Maintain the Epic work ques for timely follow up on accounts for all payers and private pay.

Perform the necessary maintenance of patient accounts, i.e., correspondence, follow-ups, logs, inquires, and correspondence to ensure accurate and timely communication with the business office.

Maintain a system to capture missed and/or late charges prior to submission of claims.

Work with other departments to ensure best practices and processes for the entire Revenue Cycle.

Job Summary:

Interprets and translates into codes Diagnosis by physicians and other healthcare professionals regarding patient diagnoses, diagnostic procedures, therapeutic procedures, clinical course, in order to accurately document patient’s reason for care and to facilitate quick and accurate reimbursement of healthcare services.

 

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  1. Codes/abstracts/analyzes medical diagnoses to provide a permanent classification record of patient care, following coding guidelines of AHIMA, Medicare/Medicaid and other third party payers.
  2. Codes all diagnostic and operative information from the medical record using PCS, ICD 10 CM/PCS, CPT and HCPCS coding classification systems and independently quality checks own work.
  3. Optimizes hospital payment legitimately and ethically by utilizing approved coding guidelines and conventions.
  4. Ensures that all data abstracted is consistent with guidelines outlined by JC, IDPH and CMS, regional and local policy.
  5. Meets established quality and productivity standards and deadlines.
  6. Demonstrates an understanding of the medicolegal implications and responsibilities related to the coding of patient records to protect the patient and the business/institution.
  7. Operates designated computer terminal, coding equipment and software programs (3M, CPSI, eMD's) as directed to complete assignments.

2.  Cleans and disinfects all fixtures, floors, mirrors, windows, doors and walls of bathrooms and showers.

3.  Uses and/or wears the proper safety equipment and uses universal precautions at all times.

This position would also be PRN and would fill in for vacations.

  2. Assists the circulating nurse as needed.
  3. Assists in housekeeping duties of the department as directed to ensure safe patient environment.
  4. Assists in the transportation of surgical patients to and from the surgical suite as needed.
  5. Assists in maintenance, care and processing of surgical instruments, equipment and supplies.
  6. Responsible to take “leave word” hours for the surgery department in case of emergencies on off hours.
  7. Assists in the surgery scheduling process for the department.
