| Risk Management |
| Risk management is about
taking necessary measures to reduce the probability of injury or
risk to patients and others. Risk management in healthcare is
concerned with improving and maintaining quality. Risk Management
is also closely aligned with safety. |
| Effective risk management
requires great systems be in place and must have the utmost support
from administration. |
| Risk managers are systems
thinkers with a broad-based medical background. At Memorial
Hospital, the risk manager is a registered nurse certified in
healthcare quality and case management. |
| Risk managers investigate
events that occur that are out of the ordinary. They institute
corrective action plans to reduce the likelihood that adverse events
will ever happen again. Much of the role of risk management is
education, investigation and communication. |
| The bottom line is this:
Risk management is all about providing high quality services AND
preventing harm to the patient. |
| Discharge Planning |
| Planning for your return home begins
at the time you are admitted to the hospital. Throughout your stay,
your physician and other members of your healthcare team will
discuss your discharge plans with you and your family. Our goal is
to facilitate the discharge process so that you can return home as
early as possible. The nursing staff will provide you with any
instructions you will need at home concerning special procedures,
activities, diet, medications, and follow-up visits with your
physician. If additional services are needed, the staff can
coordinate home care. |
